PROJET DE RECHERCHE
L’European Research Council (ERC) finance l’excellence scientifique à la frontière des connaissances. Il s’agit d’un programme scientifique dédié à la recherche exploratoire, dont l’unique critère de sélection est l’excellence scientifique (https://erc.europa.eu/funding/advanced-grants).
Sandra Laugier, professeure de philosophie à l’Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne est lauréate (PI) d’une bourse ERC Advanced Grant. Son projet « DEMOSERIES, Shaping Democratic Spaces: Security and TV Series » a été retenu par l’ERC pour un financement de 2,2 M d’euros (2020-2024).
DEMOSERIES (2020-2024) vise à étudier le "soft power" des séries TV et à montrer comment elles constituent de nouvelles ressources pour l’éducation morale, la créativité et la perfectibilité de leurs publics ; comment elles contribuent à la conversation démocratique et aux politiques publiques. Les séries télévisées sont de plus en plus reconnues comme objet de recherche, mais leur potentiel esthétique pour visualiser les questions éthiques et développer une réflexion collective sur les valeurs démocratiques n’a pas encore été suffisamment apprécié, alors qu’elles peuvent jouer un rôle crucial dans la création de valeurs partageables (https://www.demoseries.eu).
Description des tâches :
Le.la chercheur.e postdoctoral.e sera chargé.e de l’analyse des données vidéo, de l’étude des plateformes numériques. Parmi les thèmes de recherche prioritaires : l'impact social des plateformes télévisuelles en ligne, leurs stratégies de production et de marketing, les algorithmes de recommandation des séries TV.
Il/elle contribuera aussi à l’organisation des colloques et du séminaire de recherche.
Il/elle contribuera à l’élaboration du projet « Proof of Concept ».
Requis :
- Les candidat.e.s doivent être titulaires d’un doctorat en sciences humaines ou sociales et s’intéresser aux études des médias et à la télévision.
- Les candidat.e.s doivent avoir une compétence dans le domaine du numérique, des médias numériques et/ou en science des données.
- Le poste exige également la capacité de travailler au sein d'une équipe pluridisciplinaire ; d'excellentes compétences organisationnelles pour mettre en place et coordonner des événements, des publications et des séminaires ; certaine souplesse dans les horaires.
- Bonne maîtrise d’anglais et de français, tant à l’écrit qu’à l’oral sera attendue.

RESEARCH PROJECT
The European Research Council (ERC) funds scientific excellence at the frontier
of science. It is a scientific program dedicated to exploratory research, whose sole selection criterion is scientific excellence.

Sandra Laugier, Professor of Philosophy at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne is a recipient of an ERC Advanced Grant. Her project “DEMOSERIES, Shaping Democratic Spaces: Security and TV Series” has been selected by the ERC for funding of €2.2 million.
DEMOSERIES (2020-2024) aims to study the “soft power” of TV series and show how they constitute new resources for the moral education, creativity, and perfectibility of their audiences; how they contribute to democratic conversation and public policies. Television series are increasingly recognized as an object of research. However, their aesthetic potential for visualising ethical issues and developing a collective inquiry into democratic values has not yet been appreciated even though they can play a crucial role in the creation of shareable values.
Job Description:
The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for the analysis of video data and the study of digital platforms. Among the priority research topics are the social impact of online television platforms, their production and marketing strategies, the algorithms for recommending TV series.
He/she will also contribute to the organization of conferences and the research seminar.
He/she will contribute to the development of the “Proof of Concept” project.
Requirements:
- Applicants should hold a PhD in the humanities or social sciences and have an interest in media studies and television.
- Candidates should have expertise in the fields of digital technologies, digital media, and digital data science.
- The position requires the ability to work within a multidisciplinary team; excellent organizational skills to plan and coordinate events, publications and seminars; some flexible working hours.
- Good command of English and French, both written and spoken is expected.
